Phil Greening is an elite performance coach and founder of the Athlete Factory. Phil has built a world class training facility that is open to all from the absolute beginner to the elite, teams and individuals. The facility has 13 racks, 7 Olympic lifting platforms, unique functional training equipment, a wattbike studio and an RFU 4G pitch adjacent to the gym.
Since 2014, Phil has been coaching with the USA 7's taking them to number 2 in the HSBC World Series, Olympics in Rio and qualifying for Tokyo 2020. During this time he helped the USA 15's win their first ever ARC championship and World Cup qualification.
Phil was an international rugby player and his professional career spans over 14 years. Phil played for Gloucester RFC, Sale FC but his most successful time was at London Wasps winning 3 Premierships and 2 European cups. Phil also played for England winning a grand slam, two 6 nations titles and played in the 1999 RWC, he also toured Australia with the 2001 British Lions.

The Athlete Factory facility has been designed using our coaches’ vast experience in elite sport, training methodology, and an understanding of what actually gets results. The flow, style and range of equipment offers ALL our users the type of facility that is usually only accessed by professional sports teams and individuals. With a Wattbike studio, fuel bar, changing rooms, world class equipment, combined with the Athlete Factory knowledge, it’s the perfect training facility for all those who are serious about their health, fitness, or sport.
The Athlete Factory can deliver trainings Camps for post-16 schools and colleges to assist with the quality of training for teams. Camps are aimed at giving players the experience of an elite performance training camp akin to those international players access but customised for their age group. The sessions will be tailored in close communication with your coaching staff, depending on the aims and your budget, and are hosted on site at our centre in Chester, Cheshire; giving a fully immersive experience for your players.
The Athlete Factory is located on the grounds of Chester Rugby Club, giving us access to a World Rugby qualified, RFU 4G pitch. Opposite the AF site is a grass pitch too, giving the training facility easy access to both surfaces as you need. The 4G pitch can accommodate a variety of sports and the clubhouse and the surrounding 10 pitches are all available to book for teams clubs and schools training at the Athlete Factory. The National teams of USA, England, Ireland, Spain, France and Germany have all trained and competed at this outstanding facility in Chester, Cheshire.
PHIL GREENING BIO
Founder and Director Phil Greening has a wealth of experience in elite sport. As a player he represented England and the British & Irish Lions. As part of his Athlete Factory role he consults with the US Olympic Committee and USA Rugby. Phil’s experience in elite sports and the USA sporting environment helped create the Athlete Factory in 2014. Phil’s vision for the Athlete Factory is to transform where and how people train. To give people the insight knowledge and techniques learnt from elite sport to help them reach their goals no matter if you are an absolute beginner to the elite.
Phil’s wide contacts in the elite sporting landscape gives him the insights and connections to help shape the Athlete Factory philosophy and develop AF coaches which in turn is given to its members.. Phil’s experience on the field is backed by a suite of qualifications including Combat Conditioning, Level 1 NLP, ASCA Level 2 accreditation in Strength & Conditioning and a Practical Sports Nutrition Certificate.
An active member of UKSCA & NSCA (USA), he is now following his passion for nutrition by embarking on various courses in sports and plant based nutrition and a Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance.
